Grammy Award-winning pianist Angelin Chang returns to Ingenuity along with video artist Qian Li and media artist John Ban to present a unique exhibition integrating music, visual arts, and digital media, in an intimate theater setting.
About the Performance
Following an extraordinary response to their innovative integration of music, visual arts, digital media, and dance at Ingenuity in 2007, Angelin Chang returns along with collaborators Qian Li and John Ban (video arts) to produce a dazzling new sound and video experience and masterful performance of classical music.
Performing on a Yamaha grand piano equipped with touch-sensitive computer processing software, the shifting intensities of Chang’s playing will simultaneously conduct the speed and motions of Qian Li’s animated video graphics. The audience is invited to draw comparisons and connections between the video art backdrop, and Chang’s powerful piano performance in a concert unlike any other. In between movements, Chang will pause to address the audience, describing her method, and offering brief background insight to welcome classical music aficionados as well as even the most casual listener.
Friday evening and weekend matinee performances are limited to capacity, so please arrive early! Saturday night’s performance will be simulcast on the Jumbotrons outside.
